Potty training a dog is one of the main obligations of every dog owner. Every house should be kept clean and hygienic at all times and this can’t be achieved if there are feces and urine of dogs in any area of the house.

There are some effective steps when potty training a dog; following these steps will free you from the hassle and annoyance of cleaning up your pet’s urine and feces every now and then. This works especially with puppies that urinates and defecates several times especially after every feeding. Think of the burden that you will face when you don’t train them properly. You will probably be cleaning their mess all day long!

Remember that the best age desirable for potty training a dog is during the younger years; precisely during their puppy days. You can start by training the dog to go to the same spot where is allowed to poop or pee. Take him to that spot whenever he needs to void so that he will get used to that spot. Thus, prevent the incidence of seeing poops or pees anywhere inside the house.

Be watchful of your dog’s action usually after eating. Constantly smelling the floor may suggest that the dog needs to poop or pee. Once you saw your dog act like these; take him along to that specific spot where he should void. This is another tip when potty training a dog, which can be very helpful in familiarizing the dog on where to go and what to do when he feels the need to void.

If you have achieved the first two steps, it is now time to instruct the dog with the proper command when he needs to void. Once you have established and identified the indicative sign for voiding that your dog exhibits often; try to be consistent on the command phrase that you will instruct him with upon observing the indicative signs for voiding. If you have decided to use the command phrase, “Go out and poop/pee” you have to use this over and over again, Inconsistency will be confusing to the dog and may lead to failure in proper potty training.

When potty training your dog, you as the dog owner or trainer should be patient enough until you achieve the results you wanted to see. Never shout or show any signs that you are frustrated with the dog whenever he fails to comply with your instructions. At times when he poops or pees inside the house keep your temper and just clean the mess and keep on with the task of potty training your dog. The dog will eventually learn later on.

On the other hand, never forget to commend the dog for a job well done. You can give him a reward, which can either be food or just words of commendation just to show him that you are proud of him for his flattering actions. This tip is one effective approach when potty training a dog.
